It isn't something you can smell... but you sure can see it. At the moment my living room is full of it. Caleb just got his Nintendo Wii. It has been a long wait- a patient wait - he has been saving, then he got birthday money, then we couldn't find one! But at long last -yesterday, Best Buy had six - well, 5 now since we took home. And then of course has been the year long (or so it seems) wait for the beloved Halo3. Seth paid for it months ago when he had a job and then burst with anticipation when he stood in line at Game Stop on Monday to retrieve his copy. Literally, Scott dropped him off at Game Stop at around 9pm with 200 other testosterone filled game freaks to retrieve his copy at midnight. Yes, it was a school night... but he has a memory that he will carry with him to his senior years (and I mean AARP/Senior)- and share with his grandchildren.
So today after church 3 boys, 3 cousins, a brother and 2 of his friends, and 2 Dads all piled into my living room, rearranged furniture, set up two TVs with two Xbox Game Systems and 2 editions of Halo3, and the fun began! I have never seen so much concentration, competitiveness and testosterone at work, in my whole life. And oddly enough they are rather quiet, not what you would expect with 11 boys in my house!
I cannot quite wrap my mind around the enjoyment that comes from shooting aliens from outer space - that aren't even real! ( Seth hates it when I say that!) I guess it is just that part of a guy that makes him willing to fight for his country... to defeat the bad guy... to be the hero...
Go figure! I guess Testosterone can be a good thing!
